There was once a land far in the west, over the mountains and on the bay. The land contained a large settlement. The town was full of the inhabitants of the land; Elements. Here the Elements went about their business in the town.
Each Element was made up of protons(+) and neutrons(N), with electrons(-) orbiting around them. Shells surround the nucleus as orbit paths for the electrons. The beginning shell held 2 electrons, the next 8, and the next 8 as well.
A wise Element with many electrons once advised the government of the land to issue a new bill. It was to be called the Octet Rule. The wise Element, with the Octet Rule, stated that all atoms were to be happy as long as their three shells were full, or they had gained 8 valence electrons. From here on out, all the Elements hustled around trying to make themselves happy. All around town, the Elements were trying to get their 8 valence electrons or their full shells.
Elements like the salty dog Sodium only needed to give their one valence electron to an Element like the clean Chlorine; with 7. However, some Elements were out of luck. Maybe not out of luck, but they definitely asked the wrong people. Calcium went to ask Xenon if he would share his abundant supply of electrons. Having being a noble gas, Xenon snottily responded, "I share no electrons with elements of your stature!"
Life went on for the elements that got their happiness, and some elements even formed bonds to get over their problem with sharing. In the end, the land of the Elements flourished with the octet rule; ultimately controlling their happiness.
Really nice! The Land of the Elements could be a new reality TV show, it would be better than Jersey Shore at least.
